SA Seniors on top of table
After the first four rounds of play at the Seniors Sides Championship, South Australia’s men’s side is on top of the the ladder. Wins over ACT in the morning and WA in the afternoon has SA on 4 wins. Queensland also has four wins and whilst it has a higher shots difference, SA is higher on rink wins.
Once again Ascot Park’s Peter Gageler – with Col Harvey and Tony Treloar – showed their mettle with a draw in a tight game with ACT and a strong 9 shot win over WA.
The Ladies side suffered its only loss to date in the afternoon match against WA. Despite a good win by 10 shots over ACT, the 5 shot loss to WA has dropped the Ladies to 2nd spot on the ladder. The girls are still in a strong position, being only 3 points behind Victoria and with a lead on rink wins over third placed Queensland.
Our reps, Beth Quinlan and Chris Thulborn are still undefeated following an excellent 12 shot victory over ACT and a tight 1 shot win against their WA opponents.
Today’s matches will have major influence on the outcome of this year’s Champs. SA faces both Victoria and Queensland, and we really need to win both matches in bothe sections. Two wins will almost certainly secure the men’s trophy and the ladies would put themselves back on top of the pack.
